Champa Battambang sung by SiSamouth was inspired and written for my aunt Vandy in 1960s when she was a young beautiful girl living in Battambang. Champa is a white flower found in Cambodia and the song references the beautiful flower (girl) from Battambang. Champei Siem Reap also a national favorite sung by SiSamouth was inspired and written for my mom Rony in the 1960s when she was a young, beautiful girl in Siem Reap working at my grandfather’s pharmacy. She use to see SiSamouth stop by the pharmacy all the time.
